Walk in to any warehouse and look at the pallet racking, and you will be greeted with a sea of plastic wrap holding the contents of the pallet in place. It’s all well and good to collect it for recycling but there are two big issues with this.
Firstly, the commercial collection of soft plastics for recycling is difficult to find through most commercial recycling companies. Secondly, and more importantly, even if it’s collected, the chance of it actually being recycled are slim. With the collapse of RedCycle in Australia, soft plastics that were collected (not only through Coles and Woolworths) were not being recycled. The reason for the collapse, according to the Cleanup Australia website is that there has never been a recycling facility in Australia that could actually recycle these materials at scale.
How do we safely store your stock in our pallet racking?
Each pallet storage space in our warehouse has a metal cage that’s 1 metre x 1 metre in size. When your stock arrives in to the Eco Pick Pack warehouse, it is unloaded from the pallet and placed in to our cages. Because we specialise in boutique sized eco brands, it’s common for us to only need to pull down 2-3 boxes of stock at a time. In a facility where there’s plastic wrap around the stock, each time a pallet is pulled down from the racking, it has to be rewrapped for safety. Over time that’s a lot of unnecessary expense and waste. Our metal cages have sides that can be folded down / removed for easy access, so we completely removed the need for us to have plastic wrap for our pallet storage.
On the rare occasion that the size of your stock is awkward and won’t fit in to our cages, multi-use straps can secure the boxes to the pallet without the need for single use plastic strapping.
